Summary:

This comprehensive formative research study was designed to help guide the development and implementation of novel, task-shifting mHealth HIV/AIDS care interventions at a community-based HIV/AIDS clinic in Kampala, Uganda. Using emocha®, important knowledge was gained on acceptability and feasibility of mHealth technology for CHWs in urban Uganda. Qualitative and quantitative results were generally consistent, and, overall, there was enthusiasm for mHealth technology. However, a number of potential inhibiting factors were also discovered. Findings from this study will help guide future design and implementation of mHealth interventions in this setting, thereby optimizing their chances for success.
